Moved $40k from Marcus to SoFi: 4.30% to 4.50% APY, same-day ACH, 12-minute setup
SoFi raised their HYSA to 4.50% APY yesterday (July 17). Marcus has been 4.30% since March. On $40k that's a $80/year difference — not life-changing, but the move took 12 minutes and the money landed same-day, so the opportunity cost of doing nothing was higher than the 12 minutes I spent.
Steps: (1) opened SoFi HYSA with existing brokerage login — no new KYC, 90 seconds. (2) initiated ACH pull from Marcus — this is where I hit the gotcha. ACH pull from a different bank takes 1-3 business days; if I'd wanted same-day I should have done an ACH push from Marcus to SoFi instead (Marcus lets you push to external, takes same-day for $0.25 fee). (3) set SoFi to auto-transfer $1,500/month from checking. Net result: $40k earning 4.50% starting tomorrow, not Monday.
